“Bad Hair Day” Can Fish!
I fish at Massey’s Landing a lot from the pier, bulkheads, and at a friend’s place nearby. I see this snowy egret all the time and call him bad hair day, because he always has some messed up appearance going on and in the bird world you have to be sharp to get a mate. This bird doesn’t give two flips, it just wants to fish and eat. Man can I relate to that. He was popping small minnows and crabs every thirty seconds.
Bad Hair Day was hammering minnows and crabs in the old marina, now a side pool or “pond” next to Massey’s Ditch by the pier at the “landing”. This is where the boats were parked way, way back in the day, before it was a state boat ramp. It looks like a silt pond for a development and that is about what it has turned into, but it is a great little spot to watch nature. Even catch a fish or two when the tide is up, flounder will cruise into there looking for food at high tide.
Massey’s Landing has a huge variety of wildlife and you can see something happening every few minutes. Even on the slowest of days on and off season, nature will be more active and not disappoint. It makes for some great entertainment when you are fishing all day, especially if the skunk is on, at least there is something to watch.
