An Underwater Tour Of Catches

Underwater photography is fun and in this case exciting when you are on top of the deep dark blue

(Aug 2020) … A few years ago I ran into Merton Briggs at the Flounder Pounder and he showed me a shot of a summer flounder he took, underwater. It was really cool. I didn’t get to run into him this year, the 2020 Flounder Pounder was canceled, but since then he has turned his underwater photography into sort of a hobby. While swimming near the boat offshore.

DSF … So when someone is reeling in a fish you just jump in?
Merton … Yeah. Typically the size is determined on hook up. I keep my Go Pro and goggles next to me, holster my rod, and jump in
DSF … Ever worry about big sharks jumping in the water way offshore?
Merton … I know they’re out there but I also know they’re in the breakers off the beach. If I worried I’d never get in, and I love the ocean to much.
DSF … What camera are you using?
Merton … I use my Go Pro but am hoping to get a housing for my Nikon at some point.

Merton Briggs … “Last few summers. I Started by putting just the camera on a pole but I get too bored sometimes and love the water so I do a lot of swimming when we’re out. If I can capture a sweet pic of a fish, bonus! “

This looks like a lot of fun and I have my own plans for some underwater photography. Looking forward to see if Merton gets any more mahi shots this weekend, weather and sharks permitting.
