43rd Annual White Marlin Open Update

Last day tomorrow (Friday) for the anglers in The White Marlin Open,  Good luck to all the crews and to all that hold a position.  It has been exciting action at the scales for spectators, or at least looks like it on the web cams.  The white marlin in first place still holds at 2.4 million dollars.  That is one serious purse.  No other whites boated have scored, eighteen were brought to the docks.  Angler Phil Heasley and the crew of the Kallianassa gets the whole purse if none are scored.   Over a thousand billfish have been caught so far in this year’s White Marlin Open.  The 790 pound blue marlin, caught by Jim Conway on the Get Reel, still stands at first place.  That was pretty crazy to watch them try to get that off the boat.  Coincidentally, no other blue marlins have been brought to the scales.  That fish is sitting at $150,000.

Rich Kosztyu on the Hubrus, holds first place with a two hundred and thirty six and a half pound tuna worth $400,000.  That is some expensive sashimi.   The There is still a tie at first place for dolphin or mahi mahi at thirty six pounds, between Brian Russell on the Sea Wolf, and John Gudelsky on the Reel Joy worth $15,000 and $17,000 respectively.  The wahoo in first place, caught by Richard Hammond on the Two Timing Connie is 79 pounds and worth $17,000.  Only one shark has been scored caught by JD Messler on the MJ’s  worth $4,500.  Friday all of that could change or remain, the scales open at 4 PM.
