Striped Bass Moved Into Delaware Today

The weather is about to turn for the worse, well a little snow is all but you know how that goes here in Delaware.  Time to panic and get the bread and milk.   Some anglers decided to make a last go of it and went out looking for striped bass today.  The action as of late has been sporadic at best.  From Sea Isle, New Jersey to Ocean City, Maryland it has been slow to nothing.  On Saturday I was getting messages from several friends all in different places wanting to go fish in the very spots other guys were not seeing any fish, and they wanted to know what was going on elsewhere.   Eventually some action was seen near Atlantic city and it didn’t last long.  Schools of fish are still moving down but they are not as frequent as the last couple of weeks.  There are still fish north of us off New Jersey, but that will end soon enough.

Today there were some fish about two and a half miles out roughly from Dewey Beach to Ocean City.  Captain Jon Azato and Michael Lewis aboard the 3 Amigos vessel got it done! A two man limit was met within an hour and fifteen minutes. They landed four fish under the thirty seven inch limit and they also released five slot fish. All the stripers were taken on Lead Pot Mojos.  The boys had a good day and then pulled the boat for the season.  Always a good idea to take her out for a last run because you just never know. Will those fish be there tomorrow, only going out and fishing will tell.

Over the weekend aside from striped bass a crew of offshore anglers brought a swordfish to the scales at Indian River Marina.  They were fishing out near the Poormans Canyons reported Hookem and Cookem.  They managed a few sea bas, tilefish, and even released another swordfish around a hundred pounds.  Nice day of offshore fishing for this time of year.

The tautog fishing has been excellent for larger fish up to ten pounds.  Anglers are also doing well on some days for sea bass.  Most days is decent action and some days it is nothing but a dogfish festival.  Larger baits are catching the larger sea bass, otherwise there has been a lot of throwbacks on some of the off days.  Charters will continue to go out and fish so longas the fish bite andanglersare willing to tkaethe trip.

Now to sit back and watch the panic from the first snow of the year tomorrow and see how that plays  out.   Same happens every year, people go nuts about the first snowfall and then by the end of February everyone is accustomed to it and doesn’t care.
