Delaware’s “Aquaman”

You have seen a few pictures on here from our buddy Merton Briggs, Delaware’s “Aquaman”. We interviewed him about his exploits a couple years ago. His most recent shot is of a ribbon fish on the retrieve this past week offshore fishing for flounder and sea bass.

Ribbon fish .. Merton Briggs

He is the only guy I know who does underwater fish photography like this. If you are on a boat with Merton and you hear, “Get the net”! Expect to it to be followed by the sound , Kersplash!
Merton is in the water to get a shot of the fish on retrieve. Recently he was using the Go Pro over the spring on a stick for pickerel and got some dope shots while kayak fishing!

I mean we had to ask …
DSF … So when someone is reeling in a fish you just jump out of the boat, offshore?

Merton … Yeah. Typically the size is determined on hook up. I keep my Go Pro and goggles next to me, holster my rod, and jump in.

DSF … Ever worry about big sharks, since you are jumping in the water way offshore?

Merton … I know they’re out there, but I also know they’re in the breakers off the beach. If I worried I’d never get in, and I love the ocean to much
.

DSF … What camera are you using?

Merton … I use my Go Pro but am hoping to get a housing for my Nikon at some point.

Merton Briggs … “Last few summers. I Started by putting just the Go Pro camera on a pole but I get too bored sometimes and love the water. SO I do a lot of swimming when we’re out. If I can capture a sweet pic of a fish, bonus! “

Now I have to get the SJcam fired up for this summer for an idea at the beach, maybe. I’m hard on gear. I went with the Go Pro wanna be, it does just fine and only breaks at a fourth of the cost. I also found a use for these broken surf poles, giant fish selfie sticks.
