On Sunday Jacqueline Graffen was fishing with the family and noticed that the work has begun on the Cape Henlopen Fishing pier.  I do not know how long this will take, but it is good to see the repairs have started.  I am sure the repairs as the crews get farther out will be governed by the tides.  It is easier to do this work during the low tides and calmer waters, many times those conditions are required.  The damage farther out is much worse than closer to shore, I saw that first hand during a recent blow out tide.  The ice flows we had this winter really did a number on the damaged pier pylons.  Once the pylons are finished being repaired, then the pier will reopen, as long as all goes to plan.  The pier will close again in December  to allow crews to replace the decking boards.  I know everyone is disappointed the pier has been closed this season, but it will be nice to have her back and safer to use for next year and possibly the end of the fishing season.

In the meantime if you  are looking for a pier to fish or crab there are a few options.  Masseys Landing has a great fishing pier, but the crabbing is not that good due to fast water currents.  Holts Landing state park has a great fishing pier and decent crabbing.  The floating town docks in Lewes have been real popular as of late, especially for flounder and croaker fishing, the crabbing is not too bad either.  Rosedale Beach has a great crabbing pier and the fishing is not too bad but you have to put in some time.  Even Cupola Park offers decent bank fishing and has plenty of entertainment for the kids.  Milton has a very nice pier near Wagamons pond below the spillway.   Many state boat ramps have fishing piers as well, such as Milford boat ramp.  Next year, bar any natural disasters, you should be able to enjoy a full year fishing the Cape Henlopen State Park Fishing Pier.

Fish On!!
