Masseys Ditch Is already Shoaling Back In

The Indian River Bay side shoal is forming back up rather quickly

Not a year after dredging Masseys ditch and part of Bakers Channel. The end of Masseys near bird island on the Indian River bay side is filling back in. It won’t take too long before it is filled in just as bad as before the dredging. Boats were constantly getting stuck, and not just at low tide. Driscoll drones did a small time line with photos to show the progression.

Jan. 22, 2019 – Pre dredging around “bird island” or Middle Island

The project to open Masseys channel back up and this area filling back in this fast just shows how much the inland bays need some real dredging and sand removal. Not just in one small spot but overall, the all the sand bars shouldn’t’ be there. They could pump sand for a year or more into the beaches with the amount of sand that has washed into the inland bays. Eventually a lot of his sand will be pushed into Masseys Ditch and rebuild that shoal.

At least we will have another year of entertaining posts of people arguing about their dogs pooping freely on the sand bars and not cleaning it up, since they don’t consider it land. It is state land when it is wet or dry. Pick up after your pets. I’d be more worried about he lack of bathroom facilities out there. Don’t forget to stay off Bird or Middle Island it is preserve.
