There’s a first time for everything and I’ll try anything once.

 

First things first, Blackfish AKA Tautog are one of the hardest fighting fish pound for pound in my opinion.  Blackfish are also among the trickiest fish to catch, these fish do not, and will not hang themselves unlike other species.  Traditionally one who fishes for tautog uses a conventional style reel and a stout fiberglass rod and a simple one or two hook rig made out of fifty to eighty pound leader material and however many ounces of lead it takes to hold bottom.
