Assateague OSV closed until further notice due to damage UPDATED

Just Announced Today (May 12) They May Be Able To Open Up The OSV For Saturday.

Assateague Island National Seashore (May 11, 2022) … The recent storm and wind event has caused considerable damage to the Oversand Vehicle area in Maryland. The beach has been very badly scoured. It has narrowed significantly in places and has many large scarps which make it dangerous to traverse. It is totally impassable in at least one place. In addition, a large percentage of the OSV boundary markers have been lost/destroyed.
The OSV will be closed until further notice. We will be attempting to get it open by Saturday morning (May 14th) but cannot guarantee that it will be opened by then. Wind conditions do not yet allow us to send crews out safely. As the winds die down, normal tide cycles should naturally fix some of the issues, and we will have crews working in the next few days. For now-reopening will be no earlier than May 14th-it is possible that it may remain closed longer. Further information will follow in the coming days.”
