While looking for a spot to fish, we also were looking for a buddy, we didn’t see him. While circling back from the bayside of the point we saw the cormorants feeding that rip. Then I saw a head. Oh cool a seal. Let’s sit here set up the lines, that bird just swallowed a huge fish whole, may as well try.

I wanted a seal picture too. When you are soaking bait, taking pictures is a fun little past time when waiting for a bite. I tested out my new Lamiglas rod and cast it for a while. Once the arm went to Jello, back to the camera. We watched the dolphins surround a boat with two anglers trying to fish. The seal was half way to the inner wall and I was hoping he would come closer, but the boat traffic was crazy. Is it the 4th of July? Eventually he moved in closer and in front of us. That’s when the sea plane showed up.

Some folks we spoke with and showed them the seal said one was seen at Assateague yesterday. The seals are starting to come back and we need to keep an eye out for them. You know the drill stay a hundred and fifty feet away. A good way to determine that is the “Rule of Thumb”. Put your thumb up in front of a seal. If you can see the seal, you are too close. If you can’t see the seal due to your thumb blocking your view, you are good to go. They are here to feed for the winter and spend time in our waters. It is really cool to see them more and more each year.
