Everyone else been up all night from the winds? Sustained winds at the Indian River Inlet Bridge, 50 miles per hour, with gusts up to 62 miles per hour. High tide is at 7 AM in Rehoboth and the water is already to the dune base, you can watch waves break and spray onto the boardwalk. Waves are washing up the dunes and then back onto the beach. Water is also washing up the walk on paths and onto the baordwalk. Bethany Beach is showing the same on their web camera. No idea how bad it will get but it is not long until high tide. The Del Dot webcam on route 1 north of the Charles W Cullen bridge is focused on the beach and you can see the waves are to the dune edge. The waves breaking in the distance are huge. Del Dot is watching the area that breached during Superstorm Sandy in case it happens again. The south side webcam is moving around in the wind so much you will get sea sick trying to watch it. So far route 1 is clear, with just some sand built up on the north side of the bridge. Nikki Gilmore sent us a message on her way to work at Beebe Hospital. “Rt 1 open. Lots of sand building up just after the bridge. No flooding yet. Able to pass but winds make it a really rough ride. We are definitely going to flood in the back bays along the inland bay side, that means Oak Orchard, Pot nets and places on that side of the bay will get the worse due to winds pushing water. I would expect Long Neck road to cover over with water at Malone’s around 9 AM or earlier. That water is not going to drain anytime soon either. The nor’easter, Jonas, is just sitting on top of us grinding up the coast. This is why a Nor’easter is worse than a hurricane. The sustained winds are going to increase as the day progresses. Up north they got all snow we have a mix down here and it is mostly freezing rain. Stay home and stay warm, going out in this is not a good idea at all. We will keep you posted.
