Puffer In The Surf And We Did A Lot Of Skating

GW’s striped bass from up north in the Delaware River/Bay

More brown trout were stocked today at White Clay, Rittenhouse, and Brandywine.  The trout fishing has been great up there.  You can find some nice pockets of fish if you really move around and put in the time.  Should be a good weekend to get out of the wind and on a stream.  Also up north striped bass action is the status quo, you just need to be there when the fish are around and they are in all the usual hot spots.  Bloodworms and bunker chunks are working.  The one thing that is hated about weekend fishing, everyone is trying to get on top of fish.  Usually it is a good idea to get away from all the boats and find a quieter spot, and not on top of the schools but hear them.   Then again this weekend, I imagine many will be headed to the beaches to try for some bluefish.  We have fish all over the waters now which is good so everyone can spread out.  We tried all day today and came up dogs and skates, so did the rest of the beach and not for a lack of trying.  There were twelve trucks on the Key Box to Faithful Steward stretch.  Love the weekday fishing, lots of room and no crowds, especially this time of year.   Anglers at 3rs and Henlopen reported the same catches.  Except we had one new spring visitor show up.

Facebook live video from today … Looking for Bluefish

Northern puffer fish or chicken of the sea .. caught today by JR on bloodworms

First northern puffer of the year was caught today at Herring Point beach on bloodworms by JR.  I am sure there are more these fish travel in schools and soon the inland bays will be full of them as well as the surf.    There were a lot of dogfish and skates at the Indian River Inlet.   Netters up north are seeing thirty plus pound striped bass, big weakfish, black drum, and flounder in the nets.  Buddy of mine was picking up bunker today and spoke to a few of the netters.  Most stores have fresh bunker.  We put a Fresh Bait Friday report on WGMD for tomorrow morning, be sure to tune in, every Friday we will have that report.  Just about everyone is stocked up, but call ahead in case they are out or closed.  Some shops are still on the winter or transitional hours.  It was a beautiful day in the sand box despite the lack of bluefish.  The weather is looking calmer for the weekend, so that is good news. Crabbing is still great in the inland bays now that the water has warmed back up to the low fifties.  Will there still be bluefish in the surf this weekend, we will have to wait and see what happens tomorrow.  In the mean time you can’t catch if you ain’t fishing.

Fish On!!
