On July 6 William Emmert caught a 56.9 pound mahi-mahi trolling the Baltimore canyon. This catch beats the previous record of 52 pounds, 15 ounces on Aug. 18, 2003, by Charles Ciociola. Since the mahi mahi was caught by a boat that ported out of Delaware it qualifies as a Delaware State record in the Delaware Sport Fishing Tournament . William Emmert was fishing on the Elizabeth Jane with captain Jason King. The boat ported out of Indian River Inlet and the catch was verified by Fish and Wildlife enforcement officer Senior Cpl. Casey Zolper at Hook ‘Em and Cook ‘Em Outfitters . Mahi Mahi of this size are exceptional, usually averaging fifteen to thirty pounds. The Mahi Mahi is also known as a Dorado fish or dolphin fish. It is a very popular fish to catch, for the action and to eat. This catch is one huge bull of a mahi mahi. Congratulations to William Emmert and crew they will have a story to tell for years to come.
Fish On!!
