You probably already heard, but a boat capsized about eight miles off the coast today. About an hour ago Captain Brian Wazlavek of Delaware Family Fishing called me with the story of what happened today. “I was at site 9 when the call came over the radio … May Day May Day, boat in distress taking on water. I pulled anchor and headed towards them, they were not far from site 10. The True Blue II was already there with one of the passengers on board. The Flattie Pounder was working on picking up the other two people. The waves were four and half feet at four seconds, I knew with only one screw (prop) I couldn’t maneuver safely enough to pick anyone up in this big of a boat. If I had two screws that would be different so I kept an eye on the sinking boat. The Coast Guard 47’s showed up from the north, one loaded the passengers, and the other 47 relived me as I was watching the capsized boat. The State Police Helicopter was also on scene by this time. The Coast Guard headed back to Indian River and I headed back in to drift the Broadkill for flounder”

Huge props to the crews of the True Blue II and the Flattie Pounder for getting there to help these people. This is one reason to always listen to your radio when you are on the water. When people need help sometimes they need it immediately. Captain Brian Wazlavek was in the Coast Guard and he knows this all too well. The boat was towed into Indian River Marina by Tow Boat US. according to Captain Clark Droney who messaged me earlier today … from Alaska. That man has a tough job and even on vacation has to “work”. Good job to all that helped out with this boating incident today. Had the people out there not responded this could have been much worse for the three people in that boat. Whom are fine, home now and have a hell of a story to tell their friends. So what had happened was …
