There was an open house the other day at Cape Henlopen State Park to allow for public comment about the improvements to the existing campground. The improvements discussed were … Reduction of asphalt, Installation of landscaping, Creation of back-in, pull-through and pop-up RV sites, Installation of electric service, Vehicular circulation improvement and paths linking the bath houses within the campground, Construction of a camp store with laundry and utility sinks. The parks put a lot of planning into this new look and it should be a big hit. Especially for RV campers, who have always wanted to stay in Cape Henlopen. The parks are currently constructing twelve, two bedroom cabins with screen porches in a separate section. Walk in camp sites have been added. For the layout of the new pull through RV and camp sites the parks took into consideration where existing trees were, so they would not disturb the surrounding fauna. So the layout looks a little sporadic, with some camp sites grouped together, which for a large group is a bonus. Some campsites are a little more secluded or separated from the nearby sites.
The addition of a laundry facility with a camp store will be convenient for campers. In the past you had to head out of the park to get supplies. Doing laundry after a long weekend of fun in the sun is a must sometimes, especially for families. The RV sites will have a fifty amp service but the parks are considering a one hundred amp service. They are also considering putting in some WiFi hot spots. That would be great for people to save on their bandwidth so long as it is free WiFi. All of the improvements are scheduled to be completed by 2017. Parks and a grant from the federal government for fifty percent of the costs are paying for these improvements.
