PUBLISHED IN APRIL 2016 …. just wondering out loud when it will happen again
Bluefish are now moving up and down the beaches in Delaware. You have to be there when they come by, and they will at some point. No idea of the schools’ sizes or anything like that, but you put in the time you can get into them. The blues in the surf are mostly showing up around Delaware Seashore State Park and farther north near Rehoboth Beach. Some folks said the heck with the weather today and went out anyway, and were rewarded with some nice short striped bass catches.
Matt Adams hit a thirty plus inch bluefish on a mullet rig. Matt said that fish is headed to the smoker. Haven’t seen a bluefish caught on bunker yet, but they should hit it as well, it is what they are chasing out front. Now if the weather would just break up some more and calm down. It is going to be nasty into the weekend, those reports are below. Regardless of the weather, you can’t catch if you ain’t fishing.
The netters up north are seeing mostly large bluefish in their nets. That is how it happened last year and they are seeing more and more blues, and less and less striped bass and bunker in the nets. Now the question is how long will that last this year?
Striped bass action is still heavy up north in the spawning areas. Lot of shorts also being caught on bloodworms or bunker chunks. Hickory shad action is getting hotter and hotter in the tidal creeks in western Sussex county. We should see them soon if not already at the Indian River Inlet. White perch action last few days has been slow on the Broadkill River.
Fish On!!
