Anyone tired of these nor’easters yet? Tired of weather reports that are wrong or misleading? Tired of all the Facebook pages vying for attention with constant updates? NOAA via the national Weather service broke the internet today with their report.
We do storm reports on DSF because it is a big aspect of fishing and people are always asking what will happen. Especially since the Superstorm Sandy coverage, we did well with that and now it is expected. So we prefer to do weather reports at the last-minute (for the most part) so we know exactly what is or could happen. Then we give you live info as much as we can or we feel is necessary. It is a nor’easter, we all know this, but how intense is always the question, they have been known to stall and sit there and grind us up.
Also at this point in the weather game, we just want spring to show up. It is like the first snow, once that happens, a few months later no one cares anymore. it is just part of that time of year, these storms though many have occurred are just part of this time of year.
NOAA’s report today in my opinion was epic … Basically they posted three scenarios, from nothing for sussex county to the slim chance of snowmageddon, covering all of the bases. We will see some snow, or possibly not, and/or get buried. By the way route 1 was built up by DelDOT in a section just below Dewey beach. So at least that section won’t or shouldn’t flood.
The marine forecast from NOAA is my favorite to follow, especially today’s … “A pair of back to back noreaster’s Tuesday and Wednesday mornings will merge into a single intense blockbuster storm off the mid Atlantic coast by Wednesday afternoon ” The full report is posted at the bottom of this article.
Everyone has their opinion of who does the best reports, but everyone gets their info from the same weather satellites. Seriously, there isn’t one weather station or site that has better info than others. Weather prediction is largely speculation based on forecast models done by computers. Yes there are two models,but it is what it is. Don’t forget there is always the old-fashioned just look out the window report or check grandpa’s knee.
There is a nor’easter coming Tuesday, we may or may not see snow in Sussex county into Wednesday. The north will see snow or get completely buried. It is going to rain for sure. There will be high winds, we will have beach erosion, and minor tidal flooding. All of this could go major to very minor, you will just have to wait and see. We all know what to do in these storms … get stranded in your favorite bar, I mean shelter.
Everyone who was complaining that the first bad storm of march wasn’t a nor’easter was correct on the naming, but the flooding was much like a nor’easter. Had that storm been a true nor’easter it could have been much worse. Either way be prepared, stay safe, and be smart.
