LEWES, Del. — More than 250 Special Olympics athletes and family members are expected to gather on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Cape Henlopen State Park fishing pier for the 28th annual Special Olympics Delaware Families Day at the Beach.

Athletes and families participate in the annual Hoss Cochran fishing tournament, which is sponsored by the Delaware Mobile Surf Fishermen Association and Lighthouse View Bait and Tackle with volunteers provided by the Rehoboth Beach Lions Club. Prizes are awarded for the first, biggest and most fish caught at the Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier.

Following the tournament, a picnic lunch is provided by the Rehoboth Beach Kiwanis Club, with support from the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge #4.

“The day is a wonderful way for our athletes and their families to get together and enjoy each other’s company,” Special Olympics executive director Ann Grunert said. “Each year the fishing tournament stories get better and better, and the fish caught bigger and bigger.”
