2017 Delaware Fishing Guide

The new 2017 Delaware fishing guide is out and will be available in most shops this week.  The shops that are closed for the season will have them once they open.  The new fishing rulers are also ready and all will be delivered at the same time.  The new Delaware fishing guide has a couple of new features.  The new additions to the Delaware sportfishing tournament … the Delaware Elite Angler award, and the Cobia and Snakehead additions for state records and citations.  If an angler gets five citations or more of different species they will qualify for the Delaware Elite Angler award.  These can be a combination of fresh or saltwater fish.   No more than two of these citations can be live release citations.  Also, once you win the Delaware Elite Angler award you will not be eligible to win another plaque again, ever.  The lapel pins are being brought back to replace the citation pins.  Each year the fish on the tournament award lapel pin will be changed and only one freshwater and saltwater pin will be awarded to an angler.  There will also be a tournament award lapel pin for the live release citation program and the same rules apply.

One thing you will see is there were two new state records last year listed.  Andrew Klein caught the new largemouth bass record at eleven pounds and one point six ounces.  Tim Parell caught the new false albacore record weighing twenty pounds, eight ounces.

The new flounder regulations are not listed and last year’s remain in play until that is decided by NOAA and the state.  The new blueline and golden tilefish regulations are not in play yet either until that is decided.  You will see they are marked in red in the creel limit chart.

If you are looking to grab a guide this week, just call ahead to any shop to see if they have them yet.  Just in cast it takes more than a week to deliver them to all off the stores and other locations.  I got two last week from a friend at DNREC.

Fish On!
