Short stretch of Dune Road to close temporarily starting May 12; impeding access to Herring Point at Cape Henlopen State Park

CAPE HENLOPEN (April 24, 2014) – Beginning May 12, a short stretch of Dune Road, which provides access to Herring Point from Cape Henlopen State Park, will be closed for approximately one week. The closure of the 1/8th-mile stretch of Dune Road will enable construction work to be completed on the new Gordons Pond Trail, and the associated parking lot, scheduled to open in June.

The closure includes the beach crossing on Dune Road, which means that starting May 12 park goers will not be able to access Herring Point from either Dune Road or from the ocean.

Some of the improvements to Dune Road will include paving and striping, as well as completion of work on the new parking area at Herring Point.

Dune Road is scheduled to reopen on May 19.
