Spot caught in the Indian River Bay … photo by Mike Kendle

Yeah buddy, the striper candy is here, the striper candy is here.  Not to be confused with Candy the stripper, who is not here.  No you didn’t read that wrong spot are around the Indian River bay.  Mike Kendle was tossing a cast net today just tt see if anything has shown up and he pulled two small spot out of the Indian River Bay.  Like Mike I always throw the cast net just to see what is lurking below the water or around bulkheads and structure.  “I was walking with my net, thinking of fishing massey’s before the storm at night.  If I can get a few of them I may have a chance, this is a little earlier than I usually get them”   That is for sure, usually we don’t see them this early but then again fish are here a little earlier this year, like striped burrfish.  So get your cast nets, spot traps and get ready.  With spot on the menu the fishing will fire up even more.  Back in the day live spot was the ticket for big weakfish in the surf.  Now a days the striped bass and flounder will go nuts for spot.  Just live line it on a six aught circle hook and hold on to your rod.
