See Spot In The Surf

Suzanne Martin with the first spot of the year from the surf.

WE GOT SPOT!!!!  Suzanne Martin gets the credit for catching the first spot in the surf today.  Hopefully it wasn’t the only one, but it is very good to see them showing up with some size and close to shore.  We have them in the inland bays in much smaller bait sizes, but it is much better to see the larger ones in our waters.  Now maybe the fishing will turn around for the better in the surf.  Jon Budler fished a small bluefish blitz at Masseys Landing last evening.  His nuclear chicken gulp was getting hammered by bluefish.  He sent me a picture and said check this out, my Gulp is destroyed, blues are rolling through masseys ditch, people are catching them left and right.  I wanted to jump in the car, but regardless of the fact I am only twenty minutes away, I knew it would be over before I got there.   You should have been here 15 minutes ago would have been what I heard.  These blue fish schools are moving through the Indian River Inlet and around the inland bays.  You just have to find them.  The Delaware bay is seeing their fair share of bluefish schools.  IRI is seeing some decent shad, bluefish and croaker catches as well as flounder and Old Inlet reported a nice sized weakfish this morning that was caught yesterday at IRI, but we don’t have details on that catch.  Despite the slow surf fishing action people had a great weekend on the water.  I had a fun and gratifying day at the Terry Farrell Fund Delaware Chapter Oyster Cracker Tournament.  The Delmarva Angler broadcast from the tournament today in Bowers Beach at Paskey’s Wharf.  The participants fished aboard the Captains Lady, the only head boat in Bowers Beach and a very nice one I might add.  It was a fun time raising money for a great cause and you can listen to the broadcast on the Delmarva Angler page.
