Delaware surf fishing has been a little windy but lots of fish

It is cold and windy, Brrrrrrrrr!! Yesterday Jason Duncan  and crew killed the redfish (red drum) in the surf on mullet chunks, as well as flounder and bluefish.  They were pulling in keeper redfish 2 at a time, and said despite the wind, the fishing once again was excellent.  “Another ridiculous day surf fishing …. This time the 4 of us took 8 dozen mullet…. Almost ran out. Definitely caught over 100 fish today!”  Rick’s Bait & Tackle on Long Neck Rd. has a lot of fresh mullet.  Jeff Sands was in the surf with Jason … ” Mullet were still clutch, also luck with fishbites, white gulp, and lures… I think if we’d thrown broccoli in on a hook, they would have hit it.”    Rory Schuster was surf fishing 3R’s today, and limited out on keeper redfish.  Lots of blues are still in the surf, the back bays, and the Indian River Inlet as well.  Jason Snead was out there last night hitting blues, until he had a birds nest in his reel.  He spent most of his time trying to get it out, and he managed to eventually, while we all talked to him online with a play by play.  Have to love bird’s nests, they always occur at the worst times.  Shorty striped bass are everywhere as well, with a keeper in the mix, here and there.

Today on the point in Cape Henlopen State Park, an angler near Sue Sokira tossed his cast net 6 feet out, and caught a rather large undersized striper.  She and Robert looked at each other, and said … “Well that figures!”  This has been the case everywhere, the fish are close to the shoreline just behind the first waves.  Chris Fortner and crew, were out a few nights ago, and watched a rocket scientist set his tent on fire.  The sparks from the fire blew right into the door of the tent, and poof, it burst into flames.  They said that was exciting to watch, no one was hurt, except someone’s pride, and well, there is always one.  The fishing has been the best on the incoming tides, but still decent on the outgoing.  There are still pompano in the surf, Mike Behney of Rick’s bait & Tackle hit a few today on fishbites.  Spot are still heavy and some are rather large, and edible size.   Togging is getting better, but still a lot of undersized catches.  Suzanne Martin hit a small striped bass (rockfish) at the point yesterday.  Kristen Kemper was on 3R’s yesterday, catching blue fish, and little summer flounder.  She managed to catch a winter flounder as well, and again the fish were just behind the first wave.  Her camera phone is shot (pun intended), so we do not have a picture of the winter flounder, but hey, it is Kristen.  She was shocked as much as we are, but that has been par for the course this year (weird fishing), and too bad they are not in season.

DSF Breast Cancer Awareness shirts now available in the DSF shop

Woodland beach pier was not too bad today.  Ben DiSabatino … ” Fished the pier earlier, caught a dozen schoolie stripers (8″-17″), a bunch of white perch, and even caught my first black drum. Action was pretty steady for everyone at the end of the slack to the first 2 hrs of the incoming.”  I have to get up there and do some fishing this week sometime.  Broadkill Beach today was a little slow with a redfish, and few spot caught.  I found my first piece of blue sea glass, that was exciting for me.  Everyday I walk the beach to relax, and clear my head, it is all the “me” time I get these days.  I have been in Long Neck, DE all day checking out the Fall Festival at Adkins Produce and working on our shirts for Breast Cancer Awareness with Admin 1, they are now available in the DSF shop …  “DSF Ladies Breast Cancer Awareness Pink T – Help support breast cancer awareness by wearing one of our form fitted ladies T-shirts. $5 from every shirt sold will be donated by DSF to the Sussex County Delaware Chapter of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition.”  These will be available all the time, since I feel we should always be aware of cancer.  Hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend.

Fish On!!
